The challenge
Managing health insurance files involved multiple actors (members, healthcare partners, administrators) with complex, mostly manual processes. Processing times were long and traceability was insufficient.
The solution
A member portal (Angular) — coverage details, real-time reimbursement tracking; a healthcare partner portal (Angular) — electronic invoice submission; a manager back office (Angular + Node.js/Express) — file processing, reimbursement validation; a member mobile app (Flutter); MySQL + Oracle infrastructure for transactional performance and compliance. Design of a secure dual-API bridge isolating the legacy Oracle system behind a local read-only API (single exposed port), with cross-database filtering centralized in the main Node.js/MySQL API.
The results
The member journey fully digitalized. File processing time significantly reduced. Zero data loss on the Oracle integration. Better traceability for every actor.
Methodology and project management
The most sensitive part of the project — integration with the legacy Oracle system — was scoped and secured before any portal development began, rather than left until the end. Dedicated stabilization sprints focused specifically on reimbursement-processing reliability, with strict UAT gates given the sensitive nature of the health data involved.
Technical architecture and performance
The legacy Oracle system is isolated behind a local, read-only API exposed on a single port, with cross-database filtering centralized in the main Node.js/MySQL API — preventing any direct access to the legacy system from the portals. JWT authentication and role-based access control (member, partner, administrator) across every interface, with particular attention to compliance given the health data involved.
