Doctifile — Virtual waiting room

A digital platform that eliminates physical waiting rooms in medical practices.

Angular Node.js Flutter Firebase
-80%
Perceived wait time

The challenge

Patients lost significant time in the physical waiting rooms of medical practices, with no visibility into real wait times. On the doctors' side, manually managing patient flow created stress, errors and a poor overall experience.

The solution

Development of a complete platform: a web application for healthcare professionals (Angular + Node.js/Express) — automatic queue management, real-time dashboard, statistics; a patient mobile app (Flutter) — remote check-in, real-time position tracking, push notifications; a real-time backend (Firebase) for instant synchronization.

The results

Perceived wait time cut by 80%. Sharply higher patient satisfaction. Fewer no-shows thanks to automatic notifications.

Methodology and project management

Iterative development centered on the real-time queue flow, tested first with a pilot practice before rolling out to other practitioners. Feedback from early users (both patients and practitioners) directly shaped the priorities of the following sprints, particularly around the clarity of turn notifications.

Technical architecture and performance

Firebase Realtime Database keeps the queue instantly in sync between the practice dashboard and the patient app, with no perceptible latency. The practice back office (Angular + Node.js/Express) handles queue configuration and statistics, while the patient app (Flutter) receives position updates via Firebase Cloud Messaging for push notifications.

Frequently asked questions

What problem does Doctifile solve?

Patients lose time in physical waiting rooms with no visibility into the real wait, and practitioners manage patient flow by hand, which creates stress and errors. Doctifile moves the queue onto the patient's smartphone.

How much did it reduce waiting?

Perceived wait time dropped by 80%. Automatic notifications also reduced no-shows.

How does the real-time queue work?

Firebase Realtime Database keeps the queue in sync between the practice dashboard and the patient app with no perceptible latency. Position updates reach patients as push notifications through Firebase Cloud Messaging.

What was my role?

Technical lead and project management, delivered at Digi4. The platform was first tested with a pilot practice, and early patient and practitioner feedback shaped later sprints, notably the clarity of turn notifications.

What is the technology stack?

Angular and Node.js/Express for the practice web application, Flutter for the patient mobile app, and Firebase for the real-time backend.
